Sugar-Free Thai Milk Tea

On my weekly rotation of ready-made beverages are these refreshing, sugar-free Thai tea (regular and green!) They're so easy to make and has saved me a ton of money from visiting boba shops!

I started making Thai milk teas at home when I was diagnosed with gestational diabetes while pregnant, because nothing was going to stop a pregnant lady from getting her boba cravings satisfied! Thai milk tea is one of those trickier ones because the store-made ones are typically SO sweet and made with condensed milk that - it feels impossible to recreate it at home with zero-sugar sweeteners. After many trials and errors, I finally found the perfect ratio and combination of water to tea leaves + sweetener! Now I make this on a weekly basis, even though I no longer have gestational diabetes, and have had so much fun mixing it up with cheese foams and different milk varieties!

Ingredients:

  • 3/4 cup of evaporated milk

  • 6 tbsp of monk fruit

  • 5 cups of water

  • 1 cup of Thai tea leaves (I use THIS brand - this same brand also carries Thai green tea leaves)

Equipments:

  • Glass kettle with tea steep (linked HERE)

Instructions:

  1. Fill tea kettle with water depending on how much Thai tea leaves you’ll be using at a ratio of 5:1 (5 cups of water to 1 cup of tea leaves)

  2. Pour Thai tea leaves into the tea steeper

  3. Turn kettle on to boil water

  4. Remove tea steeper and add zero-calorie sweetener of choice while tea is still hot

  5. Allow tea to cool before transferring to your storage bottle

  6. Add evaporated milk to Thai tea

  7. Enjoy chilled!
